about the main point: “will they be put back into 3.1, 2.8, etc.?”, it depends on a lot of stuff (even if we can predict it doesnt always happen). basically you have to remember that blender is a BIG project with lots of things. the interface has changed allot in the past, blender got lots of objects added to it.
For those that will use the gpu when you have the option to use your computer for other types of 3D uses i.e. 2D graphics, 3D animation and games should consider not changing your settings just for Blender alone

I am working on a new feature using python which will require 3.2.1 or greater (without my python version it doesn’t work yet). I need to change the Blender version to not have 3.2.1 and I am using the python version on Blender. I have read multiple threads, and each had given two different ways of doing this. I cannot find one way of doing it with any documentation or reference, so I was wondering if there is a professional solution out there.
The more blender loses official support from companies the more the number of people who know its internals is going down. In our community there are many less devs then blender admins. Some of them are not skilled, but many of them are very skilled. When the more blender lost that community support, the less the developers have skills to do development.
I prefer 2.82 to 2.83 because I like to have the latest and the most up to date working version. I like feature updates even if I have to restart my blender to try to get them. 3.2.1 looks like a total update to the visual appearance of 3.2.

This is a short release note for Blender 2.8bbeta2.0. Of note in this release is the removal of the post render b-pass. This has been replaced with a B-pass where the same b-pass used as a base mesh for the rest of the render. This allows us to support dynamic b-passes where we can keep the active (ie the keys are in the scene) b-pass being rendered at the same time as the rest. This removes the need for an extra b-pass and allows the B-pass to be in the scene for every keyframe in the shot.
Blender 3D is under active development since 2001. There is already 3 point release for each new year, but is possible develop Blender, like you do, do not ask for every year the same year another Blender version number change, because we only can have ONE Blender version at time, only 3.2.1 for Blender 3.2.

I’m glad your opening your mind to the community’s ideas. The Gaea update isn’t already released, it takes some months to develop, test and package. It will be released very soon though!
Until then, we’ll put out 2.83/3.0-3.2.1, so we’ll have Blender 3.0 and 3.2.1 together.

Thanks for your input, but I’m really sad that you miss the fun of the moment. We are thinking of 3.2.1 as the last release of the development cycle, making it the last release to include software released in the Blender 2.

I don’t think those will be confusing to the public. I don’t see a need to change this.
It also seems to me that the companies who use Blender for commercial purposes and market it directly to the public don’t care for such a limited scope.
I have no intention to suggest that such companies should release their stuff in Blender Studio instead. It is just that I think their versioning model is hard to recognize by most laymen.
It’s not exactly my idea, it’s mine and Leo’s (and Andre Quervain’s, and Jarred Ashby’s) way of doing it.
It’s quite a simple idea: a new version of the framework (basically Blender itself) will come out each year. When the Blender 3.2.0 framework version is released, the 3.2.1 version is released, and so on.
All we have to do is learn this scheme, and everyone will know what to expect every year.
Older versions will stay around for a while (potentially several years) and developers can work on bugfixing and new features with those older versions, just like with the 3.1.* series.
We still have the advantages of an LTS, we just have to stop doing the annual thing and go on a better way that’s easy for developers and users.

Everyone is free to make his/her own opinion, so I understand if you feel this is something you dislike. We just want to make it as simple and transparent as possible and have it released with Blender 3.2.0, as it’s the version that has the most support.
The current version number system is very confusing to new users. I also think it confuses Blender developers as well. Developers should know and understand what the version is that Blender is actually targeting. If the developers do not know what is the target of the project, there is a very high chance that the developers are not giving the users of the software the best experience possible. For instance, a new feature was created and it is called the “2.8” version, and it comes in the version 3.2 of Blender. What version of Blender was the new feature originally developed for? Likely, the developer doesn’t know, and thus, probably does not know what is the target of the software. I do not believe that is a good approach.
