It’s always nice when Studio One makes changes to the project files, but it’s better when these changes are user-friendly. In Studio One 5.5, you can now assign a track to an insert plug-in and you get visual feedback on the Project Page. In Studio One 4, you had to switch to the Edit page to see what you’re doing. In 5.5, you can add clip gain envelopes by clicking-and-dragging on a track in the Project Page.
If your workflow is set up properly, PreSonus Studio One is very, very good. I’ve had a fair amount of experience with it in the past, but I’ve also been using it ever since it was introduced in 2010, so I have nothing tangible to compare it to. Studio One 5 even adds a second mouse button, which is helpful for navigating the UI and taking advantage of more features without making unsightly button mashes. I have no problem trying any DAW that’s new or improved, but the main thing that impressed me most is that the new UI still feels so right and so familiar. I’m very happy to have PreSonus Studio One again. I still have to see what Studio One 6 will look like.

Installing Studio One 5.5 is a straightforward process, and you will find that the upgrade path works as smoothly as any other recent upgrade.
